Does ActiveGuard® Kill Bed Bugs?

ActiveGuard® kills bed bugs in mattresses and box springs generally within 72 hours. This includes many of the highly resistant field strains studied. Not only will ActiveGuard kill bed bugs currently living in your bedding, but it is the only registered product that has the ability to help prevent new bed bug infestations before they establish.

Further, ActiveGuard is the only product that can outlast the life cycle of a bed bug; it kills continuously for at least two years. ActiveGuard’s white fabric construction makes bed bugs easy to see on its surface but unlike encasements, these liners kill the bed bugs dead; the best way to stop a bed bug from biting! Newest research supports that after short exposure to ActiveGuard of only 10 min, bed bugs regardless of their level of resistance, begin to show significant reductions in feeding (biting) and a dramatic inability to lay eggs. Real world consequences of this data include discontinuation of population growth thereby halting progression of an incident to an infestation.

Bed-Bug-Awareness-Week.jpg

The Professional Pest Management Alliance has designated the week of June 5-11, 2016 as ‘Bed Bug Awareness Week’. This week was appropriately chosen to coincide with the start of the summer travel season. In an outreach to the public, organizations will work to educate consumers and business owners across the country about bed bugs. A recent survey conducted by the University of Kentucky found that two thirds of travelers surveyed couldn’t identify a bed bug. This shocking statistic underscores the need for education when it comes to this insidious blood-sucking pest.

Bed bugs have the potential to impact everyone from homeowners and apartment dwellers who will be hit with high treatment costs to hoteliers and business owners who can find themselves embroiled in a lawsuit. Furthermore, hotel brand reputation can easily be tarnished through postings on the Internet and through news media. Aside from an infestation causing financial hardship, bed bugs can take a psychological toll on their victims. The mere thought of bed bugs in one’s sanctuary, their bedroom, can lurk deep within the minds of those who fall victim to an infestation.

All is not lost!  The negative impact bed bugs can have may be significantly avoided through education and by adopting a pro-active approach to address this rapidly expanding problem.

This month’s Bed Bug Authority focuses on Bed Bug Awareness…

Editor’s Note: Please note that due to the seasonal height of the pest management industry and busy travel months, we have decided to condense the number of Bed Bug Authority newsletters by combining the July and August issues into one.

Why Bedbugs are Winning at Our Favorite Hotels

A recent study conducted by the University of Kentucky found that bedbug reporting on online review sites and social media have a “…big impact on purchasing decisions.” It’s no surprise that both leisure and business travelers would avoid a bedbug infested hotel. Victims of bedbug infestations exploit the Internet’s vast readership to describe their bedbug experience resulting in physical distress, sleeplessness, nervousness, anxiety and an extreme disruption in their life. And while on a planned summer vacation with the kids and family… not if they can avoid it!

ActiveGuard® Mattress Liners are covered under U.S. Patents 5,916,580, 6,214,365, 6,440,438 and pending patents. ActiveGuard's formulation represents a unique and proprietary delivery system that offers sustained bioavailability of permethrin for two years.  Allergy Technologies is a subsidiary of A. Carey Co. LLC, which focuses on using philanthropy as a core business strategy for its businesses. Through its Philanprofit (SM) strategy, a portion of all ActiveGuard proceeds go to help fund inner-city homeless and women's shelters and asthma clinics.

ActiveGuard Mattress Liners kill bed bugs generally within 72 hours, even for many of those resistant strains studied! If you are seeking a pro-active preventative approach, ActiveGuard should be considered as the centerpiece of your long term solution to keep bedding from being infested! As part of a comprehensive strategy for treating an active bed bug infestation, ActiveGuard is an excellent choice for use as the final step in treating the mattress and box spring sleeping area. These liners' two year ability to keep on killing bed bugs provides for continual prevention and control against any adult bed bugs, nymphs or eggs missed during initial treatment and any bed bugs re-introduced after treatment has been concluded.
